🍐 Pear Tree Planting Instructions

 

Before Planting

– Choose a sunny position with well-drained soil.

– Pear trees prefer a sheltered location away from strong winds.

– Soak bare roots in water for 1–2 hours before planting.

 

Planting

  1. Dig a hole wide enough to spread the roots comfortably.
  2. Position the tree so the graft union (the swollen join above the roots) remains above soil level.
  3. Spread the roots evenly and backfill with soil.
  4. Firm the soil gently around the roots.
  5. Water thoroughly after planting.

 

Spacing

– Plant pear trees approximately 3–5 metres apart.

– Allow adequate space for air circulation and future growth.

 

Staking

– Newly planted trees may benefit from staking, particularly in exposed sites.

– Secure the tree with a soft tree tie and check regularly.

 

Watering

– Water well after planting and regularly during the first growing season.

– During prolonged dry periods, continue to water deeply to encourage strong root development.

 

Mulching

– Apply a layer of organic mulch around the base of the tree.

– Keep mulch approximately 10cm away from the trunk.

– Mulching helps retain moisture, suppress weeds and improve soil health.

 

Ongoing Care

– Keep the area around the tree free from weeds and grass.

– Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring if required.

– Remove damaged or crossing branches during the dormant season.

– Pear trees benefit from annual pruning to maintain shape and encourage fruit production.
